Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has taken notice of the non-availability of electricity meters in railway colonies and has ordered the emergency installation of 25,000 meters in the residential colonies.
The premier has established a coordination committee to monitor the issue of the lack of electricity meters and has directed it to complete the installation process within four months.

The PM took this decision after the surfacing of reports of billions of rupees having been embezzled from Pakistan Railways.
“Every penny of the national treasury is the trust of the nation, which must be spent wisely, and those who harm the national treasury do not deserve concessions,” he said.

The Minister of Railways, Azam Khan Swati, apprised the PM about how a loss of Rs. 2.5 billion was suffered annually because of the non-availability of electricity meters in its colonies.
The railway employees have been using the electricity for a long time but have not been paying the bills for it, and the financial burden had been borne by Pakistan Railways.
