When it comes to pursuing our dreams we’ve had our fair share of discouragement but if Shahrukh Khan paid attention to that we wouldn’t have the King of Bollywood.
The actor revealed that when he was just starting out with acting, he was deemed not good looking enough to be a movie poster boy, in an interview with the Mumbai Mirror.
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai mega star revealed that while these opinions downed his mother’s spirits he kept doing his thing. First with theatre and then moving on to film.
“My mom wanted me to become an actor but three-four people from Mumbai whom we knew well told her I’d never become one become one because I wasn’t good-looking enough.”
He revealed that its this attitude that really stuck with him. The Don reboot producer said that he never did let others’ opinions stick and still doesn’t care what others have to say.
“You just have to believe in what you want to do despite what others may think of you or even if you yourself feel the lack of something, material or otherwise.”
The actor even hit on the subject of superficial standards for actors rather than acting, when asked if his children would follow suit and join the industry.
He mentioned how both he and has wife have never advocated his children following this career line but when people suggest that they’re good looking enough to do so in his eyes that doesn’t really meet the criterion for an artist.
“Gauri and I never told our kids that they have to grow up to be actors. People around would say handsome hai, tall hai, body achcha hai, but if looks were a criterion, I’d never have been an actor.”
He mentioned that although his daughter does have an inclination towards acting but his sons haven’t shown interest.
“Neither my son nor my daughter have been groomed to be actors. Suhana has an inclination towards wanting to be an actor. Aryan doesn’t want to be an actor, he wants to make films, become a director. AbRam I don’t know, he’s good-looking enough to be a rock star.”
Khan is currently working on the promotion of his upcoming film Zero alongside Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. Zero is set to release on December, 21, 2018.
