PTA or Snail Mail: MNP, New Sales Still Banned Due to Delay in Notification

PTA-logoPakistan Telecommunication Authority has still not notified mobile cellular operators about withdrawal of its earlier directive, according to which mobile phone companies were asked to not to sell SIMs on franchises, service centres and at retail shops from December 1st, 2012.

PTA’s directives, which were reversed by Raja Parvez Ashraf, Prime Minister of Pakistan, are still in place and mobile phone operators are left with no way but to hold their new sales, SIM replacements and other similar functionalities.

Ban on MNP is also in place, despite clear announcement made by PM about the reversal of PTA’s decision on MNP ban.

PM had reversed almost all directives issued by PTA on November 29th, 2012. However, PTA’s earlier directives (according to which mobile phone companies were asked to not to sell SIMs on franchises, service centres and at retail shops from December 1st, 2012) will remain effective until and unless PTA de-notifies them.

Cellular companies are holding their new sales, MNP requests and SIM replacement requests and 789 service since December 1st, 2012.

Cellular companies are clueless on why PTA is taking so much time to issue a directive as per announcements made by Prime Minister, while this delay is causing them losses beyond estimates.

Industry sources tell ProPakistani that PTA is using delaying tactics to avenge the industry, for calling its chairman the postmaster.

While others believe that it didn’t surprise them when industry termed the Chairman as Postmaster, since this much delay in issuing just a single notification has proven that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is indeed acting like a snail mail.

  • Now PTA’s credibility is in fully in Question. They have been blindly following the instructions from interior minister malik but now when the decisions are reversed, they are out of paper and printing ink :-p and can’t issue the notification.

This proves that like other departments PTA is also being involved in corruption.

On last question I always ask from PTA: Where is my 3G or even 4G LTE Auction.
