Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro Could be the New King of Midrangers

Following a string of leaks and rumors, Xiaomi has finally unveiled arguably the best mid-range phone to date. Redmi Note 5 Pro is the better specc’d version of the Note 5, with dual cameras and a bezelless screen.

Display

The display is the same 5.99″ panel we saw in the Redmi Note 5 (Redmi 5 Plus). It comes with FHD+ (2160 x 1080) resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

It features an all metal build with a fingerprint sensor on the back alongside a dual camera setup which looks quite similar to the iPhone X.

Internals and storage

This phone comes with an octa-core Snapdragon 636 processor, with 4 power-efficient and 4 powerful cores. Compared to the Redmi Note 4 from last year (with Snapdragon 625) Snapdragon 636 powered Redmi Note 5 Pro is 20% faster and more efficient.

RAM is the main difference between the versions, with one coming at 4 GB and the other at 6 GB. The amount of storage is set at 64 GB which is expandable via a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro runs MIUI 9 with Android Nougat.

Camera

The cameras are another point of difference between the Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. The latter’s back camera now comes with a regular 12 MP Sony sensor and a 5 MP Samsung-made depth sensor. There’s true-tone flash, too along with PDAF.

Up front is a 20 MP camera (also a Sony sensor) with an LED and several beauty filters.

Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro’s battery capacity is set at 4,000 mAh, along with fast charging support.

At a starting price of $219 for the 4 GB, and $269 for the 6 GB model, there’s little to argue about. It will be available globally in the coming few months.

  • Although it is a great phone and definitely on my buying list. But it does not support fast charging. Please make this correction in your article.

    • It does support Q.C 2.0 but Xiaomi shipped only 5V/2A charger inside the box. You need a separate 9V/2A charger for fast charging.

    • And this is why Infinix is the best. Even their Rs.11k device supports fast charging. And believe me, once you experience it, you will never want to go back.

          • Xiaomi has bad habit of not mentioning all features of devices and software updates. Check gsmarena or youtube videos. It charges with 9v/2a if charger supports.

            • Xiaomi doesn’t normally pay the quick charge feature fee to qualcomm to reduce the phone price. Thats why quick charge feature missing on the xiaomi phone.
Using fast chargers with such kind of smartphone will damage its battery.

          • Let me tell you another thing. I have Seimens quick charger 3.0 and it charges my redmi note 4’s 4100 mAh in 124 minutes. Means 29 mAh per minute. While galaxy S8’s 3000 mAh battery charges with its own charger in 97 minutes. Means 31 mAh per minute. RN4 does not has fast charging but S8 does have.

              • Redmi Note 4 has a huge 4100 mAh battery, even fast charging would take more time than a standard 3000 mAh battery in galaxy S8. S8 battery charged in 97 minutes from dead while Note 4 charges in 144 minutes. And if you divide mAh bybtime result would be 31 and 29 which is very very close.
Now lets suppose S8 has 4100 mAh battery, how much time will it take? 132 minutes, only 10 minutes short of Redmi Note 4. You can do the math with your 4X as well.

      • and what about there shity mtk processors that darain battery equalize with the phone which doesn’t have fast charge
and by the way redminote pro does support qc 2.0

        • Every Android phone sends your data back to the US. I don’t really care but if I were to choose, I’d rather pick China over those Muricans.

    • hahahaha
      are you kidding me
What i have seen from smartlink is that double the indian price and add 2k their commission so that conclude to a price of 30 k

      • yes, because of the custom duties… if it would’ve been manufactured in pak, it would have costed around 23-24k… so its their right basically

        • lol. how much are duties and taxes? I don’t think those are close to 6K for a 25K phone. Also they get phones at factory prices from Xiaomi. This is lame excuse

          • bhai, basic 20k kay phone pey 3500 rs ki duty lug jati hai if you order from any chinese website… kuch tou dealership bhi apna profit margin rakhega until Xiaomi walay khud apna phone bechein idher instead of using smartlink as a dealership… Only then we can get the phone for its original price

  • Sastey logon ke liye sasti company xiaomi. Motorola always make world’s best budget phone. This year Motorola is coming with a bang with their G 6 line phones. The best thing again is vanilla android with useful gestures, with longer updates. Fast charging with great built quality. MIUI sucks as compare to pure android. MIUI is a crap copy of IOS..

    • Motorola? Is that a smartphone company? Ohhh that who made razor R7 back in 2005? And now have changed its father’s name as Lenovo. Right?

On more a serious note which of their phone in last couple off years was a smash hit and topped gsmarena search results? Redmi Note 3? or Note 4? Ooops these are xiaomi’s. But I loved their innovation with Mix series. Ohhh wait, acha sorry.

    • you seems like high on Motorola. let me tell you, vanilla android is the most boring android I have ever used.

    • Motorola LOL 2 flash sale in india and note 5 pro sold out in 5 sec people are waiting to buy this phone so much in Pak moto is as good as Qmobile

  • Will it be launched in Pakistan or not ? Nobody seems to be talking about the note 5 pro version coming even daraz is “exclusively launching” the note 5 plus

  • When it will be available to sale in Pakistan? Can anybody have news officially? or we can buy it from India?

  • news is that it is coming on 28 march 80% sources confirmed expected price is 24,000 hopefully this phone will be 2018 best budget phone :)
