Samsung Might Launch a Phone with 4 Rear Cameras This Year

For a company as close to being the cutting-edge of innovation like Samsung, it is somewhat surprising to see it being conservative in the photography division as of late. After being slow in implementing dual-camera setups with its phones, the company is apparently leaving no territory uncharted to get back in the numbers game and blow away the competition.

According to a new leak from popular leakers Ice Universe, the Korean company is reportedly gearing up to release a new smartphone, this time, with four cameras on board.

Four Primary Cameras?

When we talk of four cameras, we don’t mean two front and two rear shooters. In fact, the wild leak suggests four cameras on the back alone which, coupled with the front camera, can take the total up to five.

What’s more is that the phone is expected to be launched sometime this year, which is highly plausible. Samsung’s Developer Conference in November could be the place for it, given, it is also where the company plans to introduce its foldable phone.

Potential Applications

While one would be hard-pressed to think why would you need so many cameras on a phone, coupled with AR, the applications can be huge. Especially, in terms of gaming, the phone could be a game-changer from an immersion point of view.

This won’t be their only major release if it is, in fact, true what Samsung has scheduled for the future; the Korean company has also announced that it expects to unveil its foldable phone this November. Both launches could help reverse the slide that Samsung has experienced with its smartphone division of late, with slow sales for the S9 siblings.
