ICC Stirs Another Controversy as No Pakistani Included in Teams of the Decade

Pakistan were ranked number one in T20I cricket for over two years, won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, and were ranked as the number one Test team in this decade, but none of the players were able to make the cut. Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, was ranked as the number one T20I batsman for over two years but was ignored in favor of other international stars.

Veteran Pakistani all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez, failed to make the cut despite brilliant performances with the bat and the ball. Hafeez scored 1,726 runs and picked up 47 wickets, but was overlooked in place of Glenn Maxwell who performed worse than him in both departments.

Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, was picked in the T20I team despite not being in the top 20 wicket-takers in the 2010s. Tim Southee, Chris Jordan, Nuwan Kulusakera, Mustafizur Rahman all picked up more wickets than him this decade.

West Indian opener, Chris Gayle, was chosen in the T20I Team of the Decade despite not being in the top 20 run-scorers in T20Is in this decade. Meanwhile, the likes of Martin Guptill, who was the third-highest run-scorer has been ignored.

Similarly, in Test Team of the Decade and ODI Team of the Decade, there were many questionable selections. Australian spinner, Nathan Lyon, and Sri Lankan spinner, Rangana Herath, were ignored in place of Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, despite picking up more wickets in Test cricket.

South African opener, Hashim Amla, missed out on both the Test Team of the Decade and ODI Team of the Decade despite being one of the top scorers in the world in both formats.
