The cricketing fraternity around the world lauded Fawad’s valiant effort. However, the team ultimately fell short of a draw. Fawad scored 102 of 269 balls before being sent back to the pavilion by Neil Wagner.

This was Fawad’s second Test century with the first coming in his debut match against Sri Lanka in 2009. He became the first man in the history of cricket to score a hundred, then miss out for more than a decade of international cricket and score another century after making his comeback.

Fawad also became the first Pakistani batsman to score a century in the fourth innings in New Zealand.

Fawad also became the first Pakistani player to spend more than 360 minutes in the fourth innings of a Test match outside Asia in this century. The previous best was Asad Shafiq’s sublime century against Australia in Brisbane in 2016, where he spent 336 minutes on the pitch.

The partnership between Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan gave Pakistan a glimmer of hope, but New Zealand bowled Pakistan out in the last hour of the day’s play.
