Pakistan’s horrific display in the field has overshadowed their poor performance in batting. Pakistan dropped seven catches as New Zealand managed to score a mammoth 659/6 in their first innings. Pakistan trail by 354 runs in the second innings with nine wickets in hand and two days remaining in the Test match.

Pakistan’s lousy fielding throughout the Test series is statistically the worst fielding performance by a team since 2011. Pakistan has dropped 12 catches in two Test matches, which is the most number of dropped catches in a two-match Test series in ten years.

Previously, Pakistan had dropped ten catches in a series against West Indies and nine catches against Bangladesh.

Pakistan has never been a great fielding side, but there were signs of improvement under the former fielding coach, Steve Rixon. Rixon left the post a couple of years back after a pay dispute with the PCB, and Pakistan’s fielding has suffered a massive impact since then.

According to statistics, Pakistan took 85 percent of their catches during the tenure of Steve Rixon, and before his arrival, Pakistan took 77.4 percent catches. The percentage of catches taken since Steve Rixon’s departure has nosedived.
