Stats Show Naseem Shah’s Numbers to be Incredibly Similar to Imran Khan

Young pacer, Naseem Shah, had a dismal performance in the Test series against New Zealand. He went wicketless in the second Test match while he picked up only four wickets in the first Test match. He conceded 292 runs in 63.3 overs and had an average of 73.00 in the two matches.

Naseem’s poor performance also highlights the issue with Pakistan team management. They relied on the youngster and fast-tracked him into Test cricket without giving him ample time to develop by playing First-Class cricket. The 17-year old has only played in 18 First-Class matches and has not learned the art of bowling in different situations and conditions.

As has been the case with many players, the blame for this whole debacle might fall on Naseem, and it might lead to him being dropped from the team. This does not bode well for Naseem as he might find it hard to make a comeback to the national squad.

However, Pakistani management and the fans alike should not rule out the talent of Naseem Shah. He may have had a rough start to his career, as shown by his poor performances in England and New Zealand, but the talent is there.

Naseem has suffered a similar fate to the former all-rounder and captain, Imran Khan. Imran came into the side at an early age, and his performances early on in his career were below par. Imran Khan and Naseem Shah’s statistics at the same stage of their careers are eerily similar.

Performance After First 8 Test Matches

Player Matches Wickets Average 5w
Naseem Shah 8 20 35.40 1
Imran Khan 8 20 42.55 1

As we all know, Imran went on to become one of the finest players to ever grace the game and is Pakistan’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests and eighth highest in ODIs.

Naseem Shah possesses a similar kind of talent. He is the youngest player in the world to take a Test hat-trick and the second youngest to take a five-wicket haul in Tests. His talent is too significant to rule out, and it just needs to be refined positively.

They call me the Sports Guy!

  • Every guy who has a similar start wont become an Imran Khan. I find your article aimed at justifying Naseem shah’s performance . He is not ready and needs at least 2 years at domestic level. These comparisons will only damage him further.

  • Yeah and the stats of this author of this article seem to be similar to Donald Trump as both talk equally foolish

  • Please be ashamed of comparing him with a legend of cricket. Totally irrelevant comparison.

    • No one is comparing him to IK.
This article just shows that a bad start to a career doesn’t mean no talent.

  • Positive comments . He will shine in upcoming years. Need a good balling coach .

  • What are you trying to say Naseem Shah’s numbers match the Prime Minister’s. I don’t think there was any admixture in the food at that time and now you understand what I mean.

  • And yes, get Waqar Younis out because he knew his time was up, so he left the series and ran away.

  • Invalid comparison. Fact is Naseem Shah is at a considerable disadvantage as “working on” the ball is closely monitored today while back in the late 70s and 80s it went unchecked and some bowlers were experts at it to their enormous advantage.
