Rabada Takes 200: Waqar Younis Still the Youngest to 200 Test Wickets

South African fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada, became the fourth-youngest bowler to take 200 Test wickets after he dismissed Hasan Ali in the first inning of the first Test match. He achieved the feat at the age of 25 years and 248 days.

Former Pakistan fast bowler, Waqar Younis, still holds the record for the youngest bowler to take 200 Test wickets. He reached the hallmark at the age of 24 years and 26 days. Waqar made his international Test debut in 1989 at the age of 19. Famous for his express pace and his toe crushing Yorkers, Waqar took 200 Test wickets in 38 matches, 6 years after his debut.

Waqar was a mainstay of Pakistan’s bowling line-up in the 90s and formed a strong partnership with Wasim Akram. Waqar picked up 373 Test wickets in 87 matches at an average of 23.56 and an astonishing strike rate of 43.4.

Waqar was named as Pakistan’s Test captain in 1993, becoming the youngest Test captain in Pakistan’s history and the third youngest in Test history. He captained the team 17 times throughout his career, winning 10 and losing 7.

Off-spinner, Saqlain Mushtaq and leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, are the other two Pakistani bowlers in the top ten youngest bowlers to take 200 Test wickets.
