Proton Announces Launch Date for Yaris-Killer Saga Sedan in Pakistan

Proton has finally announced the launch date for the long-awaited Saga sedan, as per a recent update by Pakwheels. The vehicle will reportedly be officially launched on 2 April, and will be made available for sale and displayed at its authorized dealerships the next day.

The vehicle is said to be offered in three main variants — the Standard Manual, the Standard Auto, and the Premium Auto — which will all feature a 1299 cc, naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 94 hp and 120 Nm of torque.

For the benefit of the early adapters, the company will also sell a ‘limited edition’ R3 variant — a special trim-level inspired by Proton’s ‘R3’ motorsports division that will feature additional styling cues and a slightly larger 1332 cc engine also offered as the standard in Malaysia. The engine has been downsized for the Pakistani market in compliance with the country’s tax laws.

The report revealed the R3 will only be offered as a CBU, which means it will be a rare variant on Pakistan’s roads.

Time and time again, Proton Pakistan has insisted that its goal is to promote healthy competition in the market by introducing reasonably priced and high-quality products, and the Saga seems to be its first step in that direction.

Although Proton has made no mention of the price of the Saga yet, automotive analysts and enthusiasts believe that it may be valued at between Rs. 1.7 million and Rs. 2.1 million, which seems to be a fairly attractive offer and a breath of fresh air in a market that is being flooded by big and expensive SUVs.
