The Sindh government has declared a reward of Rs 50 million (5 crores) for Arshad Nadeem, the celebrated Pakistani athlete who clinched the country’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medal in javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab made this announcement on X, expressing his delight at witnessing this historic event alongside the public, emphasizing the significance of winning a gold medal for Pakistan after 40 long years.
“Congratulations Arshad. Fortunate to have witnessed this historic moment with the public. Gold medal for Pakistan in Olympics after 40 years. PPP’s Sindh Govt will give Rs 5 Crore to Arshad,” Wahab tweeted, adding that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will establish “Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy” soon.
He added that the Sindh government, under the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), would be awarding Rs 5 crore to Arshad Nadeem, and that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) plans to set up the “Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy” in Karachi to honor his achievement.
The accomplishment was also celebrated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who congratulated the nation and highlighted the importance of Nadeem’s win, describing it as a moment of immense pride in Pakistan’s sports history.
The Prime Minister hailed Nadeem as a national hero and an inspiration for future generations after he clinched the Olympic Gold. President Asif Ali Zardari also praised Arshad Nadeem, referring to him as a symbol of national pride.
In addition to these tributes, the Armed Forces of Pakistan, including the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Services Chiefs, extended their heartfelt congratulations.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) lauded Nadeem’s extraordinary dedication, perseverance, and hard work, viewing his victory as a source of inspiration for the entire nation.
