PCB Secures Lucrative Deal By Selling Naming Rights of Gaddafi Stadium for Rs. 1 Billion

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has secured a lucrative deal by selling the naming rights for Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium for one billion rupees under a five-year agreement with a Punjab-based bank.

This deal represents a significant achievement for the current PCB administration, led by Mohsin Naqvi, as it is more than double the 450 million rupees amount secured for the naming rights of Karachi’s National Stadium in 2022.

The Karachi venue was rebranded as National Bank Cricket Arena under a similar five-year contract, which runs until 2027 for the next three years.

This move is part of a broader strategy by the PCB to enhance revenue streams as it undertakes extensive upgrades to stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi ahead of the Champions Trophy.

PCB is investing billions in these renovations and is looking to offset some of these costs through strategic partnerships like the recent naming rights agreement.

The rebranding of Gaddafi Stadium, a venue with a rich history in Pakistan cricket, highlights the growing trend of sports venues adopting corporate names to boost revenue.

This practice, common in countries like Australia and England, is expected to be extended to other cricket stadiums in Pakistan as the PCB continues to explore new avenues for financial growth.
