Sources indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Salman Naseer will be replaced by former Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Sumair Ahmed Syed in the role. He is expected to be appointed as the PCB’s new COO on deputation from the Prime Minister’s House.
Plans are reportedly in motion to reassign Salman Naseer to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he may assume the role of Managing Director (MD) or Head of PSL.
Sumair Ahmed Syed’s arrival in his new role is anticipated soon, and he will operate under the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi while Naseer reports directly to him.
The PSL is also expected to see structural changes in the coming months with International Director Usman Wahla tipped to become the PSL Director. This potential move has raised eyebrows among PSL franchises, who, while reportedly backing Naseer’s transition, have expressed reservations about Wahla’s elevation, sparking fresh debates on the PSL’s strategic direction.
The reshuffling of the PCB’s management structure has become a norm in recent months with many high-profile names either taking up new posts or leaving the cricketing board all together as Mohsin Naqvi continues to shape things in his own vision.
