Govt to Power 200,000 Homes in Sindh with Solar Energy

The government of Sindh has reportedly reached an agreement with suppliers to set up a solar energy grid in 10 districts. Under the agreement, 200,000 houses in the districts of Sujawal, Badin, Mithi, Tharparkar, Saughar, Khairpur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Qanbar Shahdad Kot will be connected to solar power.

The agreement was reached in a meeting attended by the provincial Minister for Energy, Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, the provincial Energy Secretary, Tariq Ali Shah, officials of the Sindh Energy Department, and concerned supply representatives.

Addressing the meeting, Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh said that the World Bank is also supporting this new eco-friendly energy project in Sindh.

The attendees informed the minister that with the new solar project, every household in the selected districts will receive a state-of-the-art solar home system (SHS), a standard solar plate, a battery backup, a DC fan, three LED bulbs, and a mobile phone charging facility.

In terms of finances, a subsidy of 50 percent will be allocated for the provision of these facilities to every household. The remaining 50 percent will be charged on the basis of small installments as per the budget limits of each household.
