Fawad Chaudhry Hints at Speedy Implementation of EV Policy for Cars

The Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has said that the government will soon finalize a procedure for successfully implementing the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy for four-wheelers in Pakistan.

The minister added that the key motivation behind the introduction of the policy is to reduce the levels of pollution across the country and generate more work opportunities for the people of Pakistan.

Fawad Chaudhry stated that there had been a delay in the issuance of the ordinance but hopefully, it will be sorted out soon. He added that the relevant parties have been invited to submit the proposals for the EV policy, which will be reviewed by the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi.

The minister further highlighted that, following the introduction of the new policy, the public transport sector will also flourish, as the masses will gravitate towards the use of safe and cheap means of transportation.

On December 22, 2020, the government approved Pakistan’s first EV Policy, which included incentives for the manufacturing of 2 and 3-wheeled vehicles. Following that development, numerous EV makers expressed their interest in terms of setting up EV manufacturing plants in Pakistan.
