Govt to Enforce Uniform Syllabus Policy Soon

The provincial governments have been directed to publish books suggested by the federal authorities as a step forward towards the enforcement of uniform syllabus policy across the country.

The Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood, said that once the uniform syllabus is introduced in the country, no school or madrasah will be allowed to continue with their own curriculum.

Punjab’s Education Minister, Murad Raas, said that the changes in the syllabus will be soon made public.

He stated, “We have taken all stakeholders including private school owners into confidence over the matter,” adding that the policy would be enforced once all the reservations are addressed.

On 19 March, the Education Ministry led by Shafqat Mahmood apprised the Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan regarding the enforcement of the uniform syllabus across Pakistan. He said that a working group comprising of professionals, experts, and academics from Cambridge and Agha Khan boards and LUMS were involved in the process of introducing a uniform curriculum.

The Minister said, “It was the PTI government’s manifesto to implement uniform curriculum across the country”.

The uniform curriculum up till Grade 5 will come into effect from March 2021 while the syllabus from Grade 6 to 8 will be finalized by March 2021 and enforced from March 2022.
