Pakistan Railways announced yesterday that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) service is set to be resumed on 16 November 2020.
The restoration of the service has been underway since 2017 and will end its two-decade-long hiatus since 1999. As per the directives of the Supreme Court, the restoration process of the KCR will be in phases.
Eight passenger trains will traverse the 60-kilometer route daily at a maximum fare of Rs. 50.
The first phase shall see the trains start at Pipri Station and pass through the Landhi, Malir, Drigh Road, Cantonement, City, Kemari, Wazir Mansion, Lyari, Gulbai, Site, Shah Abdul Latif, and Orangi stations. Initially, four trains of five bogeys each will have daily routes from Pipri to Orangi simultaneously at 7 am, 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm.
Furthermore, reports say that Pakistan Railways has reconditioned fifteen bogies in Islamabad which are set to reach Karachi in two or three days as a part of the initial restoration phase of the KCR.

The resumption of the service will be a step in the right direction for the public’s benefit and will position Karachi’s public transport sector to return its former glory.
