MG ZS EV Unveiled at the ‘The Great MG Show’ in Lahore

On Saturday, Morris Garages, a China-based automaker of British origin, which just made an entrance in the Pakistani market, held an event at the Packages Mall in Lahore. The event – dubbed ‘The Great MG Show’ – received a lot of coverage from several media and infotainment outlets. Javed Afridi, the owner of JW Forland, Foton, and MG Pakistan, also shared the photos of the event via his social media.

The event theme was largely based on the colorful and amusing highlights of the British culture, which was further enhanced by various performances, such as skits and choreographed dances. The colorful fictional characters brought to life by the performers caught the eye of a large number of visitors at the mall.

Another item that became the center of attention upon its reveal, was the MG ZS EV. For the uninitiated, the ZS EV is MG’s sub-compact crossover electric SUV that made its debut in the international market in 2018. The ZS EV features a 44.5 kWh battery that powers a front-mounted electric motor, which generates 105 kW (140 horsepower) and 350 Newton/meters of torque.

In the international market, the vehicle goes up against the likes Hyundai Kona, Kia Stonic, Nissan Juke, Dacia Duster, and other similar sub-compact crossover SUVs. However, in Pakistan, the ZS EV is likely to be in a segment of its own since it will be the first of its kind EV in Pakistan, whereas its competitors are mostly hybrids or gasoline-powered vehicles.

Furthermore, given that the ZS EV, like the HS SUV, is also going to initially be offered as a CBU implies that it is inherently expensive compared to the internal combustion engine-powered vehicles. The price tag for this vehicle is likely to be north of Rs. 4 million.

Still, the ZS EV is a promising addition to the Pakistani automotive market. Given the right kind of marketing, pricing, and after-sales services, ZS EV could turn out to be a strong contender in the market.
