The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) has sent out a distress call to Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, requesting the urgent removal of the car assembly kits and auto parts imports from the “non-essential items” list.
In a letter to the finance minister, the association stated that auto parts manufacturers save $1.5 billion per year through import substitution and contribute over 5% of the country’s tax revenues.
PAAPAM Chairman Munir Bana informed the minister that the association members, directly and indirectly, employ over 3 million Pakistani workers, technicians, engineers, and management professionals on various projects. He stated that those workers are now facing layoffs as the sector risks closure.
The association requested that all banks open all LCs for imports by authentic part makers and vendors as the industry is facing permanent closure due to rising inflation, currency devaluation, and record-high markup rates.
PAPAAM’s letter to the finance minister reads:
Unless immediate counter measures are taken to save the “mother of all industries”, a massive tragedy would unfold, as the entire auto parts industry would shut down permanently, leading to losses of millions of jobs, rollback of localisation and repatriation of foreign investments by all the automotive assemblers.

Please do not be this selfish. For your desire to get cheaper and better cars please do not forget the government does not have USD to buy petrol and run power units.
If Auto industry shuts down you will NOT be importing new cars that are supposedly cheaper and better than local ones.
(I did not mention the economic loss of shutting down such a big industry and loss of jobs because apparently you don’t care what happens to millions of Pakistanis as long as you get cheap and quality cars)

This industry should have shut down decades ago. Still not late.
These leeches and parasites only live off imports and never once bothered to develop quality products locally to improve technical grasp of the local populace.
Car parts manufacturing facilities should have been developed separately from Car assembly plants. Govt never took interest in basic manufacturing of parts on large scale.
Unfortunately automotive industry has been only assembling vehicles not producing parts “indigenously”, that is why its is badly hit. It has been previously conveyed multple times through financial policies that industry to shift to indigenous production just like in our neighbouring country however it failed to do so. The industry previously enjoyed perks of having national policies banning imports of cars/heavy customss on imports therby effectively removing quality and affordability to common man but did not use to opportunity for some actual upgrade to the benefit of country.

Pak Suzuki started local manufacturing in 1984. In the 39 years since, the local car industry miserably failed to manufacture one single car model that can be called 100% Pakistani. Given this pathetic performance; this industry does not deserve to continue. They should be given one last chance to come up with a 100% local model in the next 3 years or pack up and go back from where they came.

Our Autoparts Industry cannot flourish. In Pakistan there is Lack of High tech Manufacturers there is no J/V for any kind of Engine parts.
All the major Parts are Imported eg below
Engine parts
Suspension parts
Brake Parts
Clutch Parts
Rubber Parts (Timmimg Belts /Fan Belts/ Oil seal etc, Etc
Electric parts
Door handle/ Regulator Machines Etc
What parts are made by our industry??
Just some body parts . Some stamp press parts ?
Some cable. Some handle . Lamps.( for few models ) bumper for few models
Making tyre of 3rd-4th quality.
Poor quality Body parts
Poor quality rubber parts
The Industry is making fool to Pakistani Government and the People of Pakistan by Manufacturing Poor quality Cars in Pakistan
