Suzuki introduced Mehran to the Pakistani market at the end of 1988, unaware of the changes that the tiny car being sold as the Suzuki Alto GL in other countries in 1986 would bring to the lives of Pakistanis.
Mehran boasted high sales during its lifetime as well as in its last year in the Pakistani market when it was replaced by the Suzuki Alto 660cc.
Immense Popularity
After its launch, Mehran became the apple of Pakistan’s eye, it became incredibly famous and was sold in huge numbers. Almost every Pakistani garage housed a Mehran back in those days. In fact, it was pretty much the first car of choice for people upgrading from a two-wheeler.
One of the reasons that Mehran maintained a significant position in the local market is due to its low price.
It was priced around Rs. 90,000 when it launched and was the successor of the existing Suzuki FX, which was the same size and had a lot of similarities, including engine capacity.
Suzuki Mehran is still a common sight three decades later on account of being a beloved little vehicle. It is often a topic of discussion among car enthusiasts and the general public and enjoys widespread popularity on social media as well.
Not surprisingly, Suzuki’s decision to discontinue it in 2019 irked thousands of unready citizens as there was still a huge demand for this car.
First and Last Generation
The tiny hatchback remained relatively unchanged from its launch till 2019. No revolutionary feature or gadget was added to it other than a rare change of seat covers, grill design, and light covers.
The year 2004 was a little different as the top trim was finally equipped with matching bumpers the other variants lacked, and the matching bumpers or the installation of a factory-fitted CNG kit was its only major change.
Low-Cost Parts and Maintenance
Another edge that this car has is the availability of parts for both the engine and the body at every car market.
Its 32-year tenure in Pakistan probably led to auto parts dealers stocking up on each of its spare parts. For example, an aftermarket bumper and a pair of brand new (unoriginal) rear lights would cost less than Rs. 5,000.
This emboldened Mehran drivers during rush hours, making them fearless when navigating all kinds of traffic, all thanks to cheap and easily available spare parts. Another feather in its cap is low fuel consumption, which meant that it was easy on your pocket in all aspects.
High Resale Value
Its resale value is also unmatched. Its end of sales did not cause any harm to its value as thousands still want to buy Mehrans. The car was discontinued at a price of Rs. 865,000 but the current price for a 2019 model is more than Rs. 1,000,000.
Mehran is the car of choice for daily driving in Pakistan that is still owned by a large number of people including professionals, students, and those who upgrade from motorbikes to cars. Needless to say, its 32-year journey in Pakistan was quite successful.
it was never an apple of the public eye, when you are provided with no options and forced to buy some junk, one can’t call it a king or is it that a “king” in real life where only “king” has a say to everything and rest are “Riaya” public, then it is true.
The article should be 32 year scam running on Pakistani roads. This car is a monopoly, it has an entire money making system built around it from mechanics, auto parts and dealers. You can count the parts on fingertips and yet there is always something broken, malfunctioning.
Suzuki Euro was a nice cheap and durable car. I wish the other companies should make the same shape & power cars again. I bet that the new cars in the shape of Suzuki Euro 800cc will break the Sale record again.

The worst car of the world. The poor people of the Pakistan buy it just because of no other options. And the Suzuki motor blackmailed the nation on this account.
Dear its not king, since 1988 suzuki manufacturing but no any changes come to it. This car is not comfortable, everything is manual, even it cannot compare with Japanese alto but the other side is its price high then high.
It was not the apple Eye of Public actual reason was that Pakistani dont have any good option in this price range when these options were provided . Mehran would be vanished from Market .
The worst car ever, the one who has written this article should be ashamed calling it king.It was imposed on the people of pak because they had no other choice, otherwise and donkey ride and safety etc very beautifully match. Its realy a king car i purchased and owned zero mile suzuki fx 88 and suzuki mehran 94 96 2004 at that time and currently have euro variant and very happy with these 2 models.
All negative comment posting people kindly first check other manufacturers cars build and finishing quality which are currently available in pakistan market as made in pakistan corolla city civic hiace hilux…. Kya yeh sab bhi mehran ki wajha hai🙂? Nahi bhai yeh sab ap sab ki wajha se hai jo yeh sab pata hotay hoay bhi purchase karne ja ke bhet jatay ho. Just a scrap cars just in 30 to 40lacs.

The article should be titled “How Pak Suzuki Ripped off people of Pakistan for 32 years”. A 1988 model of Alto being sold for 32 years with minor facelifts and zero safety speaks volumes about our auto policy.
A 32 year old auto industry monopoly would be better in small car segment.
The over priced piece of trash forced upon the common Pakistani by corrupt businessmen, govts and officials. Till a couple of years ago, it didn’t even have seat belts. A large number of people using this car in Pakistan even knows this car is “TEEN DABBA CAR”, every year Suzuki company had launched new model of Mehran car ,but no modification and up gradation was made except change of seat covers. It shouldn’t be stated as a car but unfortunately it has four wheels. Pak Suzuki like others did the Mafia work and blackmailed the government all the times. We should have all the options available in international markets long ago.
